Im not sure whether the older Tenere 660 would be considered a direct competitor to the DR650 but there are a few going at very reasonable prices now that the Tenere 700 is the primary player. Reviews for the Ten660 say that it is top heavy and vibey as it is single cylinder, but probably just as capable as the DR650 on dirt and road.

701lr I want more capable for road touring too. Ans f850gs feel definitely lighter than r1250gsa. Itâs not the lightest but Iâm not looking for just off road machine. 850gs maybe lighter on paper but it is top heavy and it will go all the way down so it will be harder to pick up than GS.

The OP can get a new KLR with rear rack, engine guards, aux. lighting, side racks, USB and 12 volt outlets and panniers for $8000.00. A basic Tenere would cost $10,000.00 and you would spend more than another $1000.00 to get all the mods the stock top fo the line KLR comes with. If money were no object I would opt for the Tenere myself.

Dec 23, 2021 #8. One other major factor on trails like Black Bear is the altitude. For people not living in Colorado's altitude and have not had time to acclimate it be very tiring and even dizzy or confused feeling. Seems the Tenere guy may have been feeling a little altitude sickness, in particular it happens when your exertion or anxiety is up.
